A Place to Learn, Fight, and Find Hope
Education and encouragement for everyone touched by cancer.
Betty Jean Cancer Free Nonprofit Organization is a place where people can learn about where cancer is derived and what it does to people, how to fight it and more.
Our Mission
My goal is to help everyone understand the fight is not over. Myself as well as many other organizations are working hard to help educate and give confidence to someone who may feel like giving up because this disease is just too overwhelming. The struggle of wondering what foods to eat or not having an appetite, what medication to take or why certain medications are better than the feeling of being tired and drained from the medication without any motivation.
If you are reading this, you may have experienced this or know someone that has.
Treatment Approaches
Understanding the options available is the first step in fighting back. Here are four major categories of cancer treatment in use today.
Immunotherapy
Drugs (Keytruda) that activate your own immune system to recognize and fight cancer cells.
Targeted Therapy
Medications (Tagrisso) that specifically target genetic mutations or proteins unique to cancer cells.
Chemotherapy
Traditional medications (Cisplatin) that kill fast-growing cancer cells, often used alongside other treatments.
Hormone Therapy
Drugs that slow or stop the growth of cancers like breast cancer that rely on hormones to grow.
Understanding Cancer Types
There are over 200 distinct types of cancer, but they are broadly classified into 5 main groups based on the type of tissue and cells where the cancer begins.
Carcinoma
Begins in the skin or tissues that line internal organs. These are the most common and include breast, lung, prostate, and colon cancer.
Sarcoma
Begins in connective or supportive tissues like bone, cartilage, fat, or muscle.
Leukemia
Cancer of the blood-forming tissues, primarily affecting white blood cells in the bone marrow.
Lymphoma & Myeloma
Cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system, lymph nodes, and plasma cells.
Central Nervous System Cancers
Tumors that start in the brain and spinal cord.
